Complicated infantile hemangiomas such as those located on the orbital area, tip of the nose, lips and philtrum, ears and mandibular are require aggressive treatment to prevent functional disablity and facial deformity. The mainstay of treatment has always been systemic steroids. Recently, there have been emerging case reports on the remarkable effects of oral propanolol on hemangiomas. We report a 2-month-old girl with multiple complicated hemangiomas who responded immediately to propanolol. This is the first reported case of infantile hemangioma treated with propanolol in the Philippines. We discuss a brief overview of the nature and standard treatment of hemangiomas as well as a detailed discussion on propanolol as anew and emerging treatment for this disorder.
