Production of provitamin A and vitamin A for nutrition and health.

The study aims to establish production system of "natural" B-carotene (vitamin A, provitamin A, iodine and iron), and purified provitamin A for use as food/food additives, medical therapeutic agents, and health aids.The specific objectives are the following: 1) to establish production system of "natural" B-carotene; 2) to optimize process conditions for the cultivation of D. salina cells' 3) to study the downstream process of "natural" B-carotene; 4) to carryout purification process for vitamin A and provitamin A; and 5) to conduct biological and chemical assays and feeding trials.
